In the week before Christmas, all through the land, free carrots are coming to lend you a hand

Morrisons is handing out free "magic" carrots to customers in the week before Christmas - marked "for Rudolph".

The supermarket has 125,000 paper bags of the root vegetable available - but with a difference from the others on sale elsewhere in the store.

These "magic" carrots come from Morrison's wonky veg range - deemed not beautiful enough to be part of the standard offering, but no less delicious or nutritious as a result of their shape.

The good news is that this won't put Rudolph off if you leave any out for him.

Morrisons carrot buyer Andy Todd said: “We want to make it easy for our customers to enjoy these magical Christmas traditions. And at the same time we want to highlight that wonky carrots are just as tasty as perfect-looking carrots - to support our farmers.”

The move aims to introduce kids to wonky veg
Lidl's £1.50 'wonky veg' boxes are finally being rolled out nationwide

The wonky carrots are oversized, misshapen and scarred, and available from the entrances of all 493 Morrisons stores across the UK on Saturday 21st December.

The 'Carrots for Rudolph' campaign is also designed to help British carrot farmers who have harvested more wonky carrots than usual this autumn.

Carrot Farmer Alastair Ferguson said: "The heavy rainfall this year has made harvesting very challenging.

"We’ve plenty of standard carrots for Christmas dinner - but also have a lot of wonky carrots. Carrots for Rudolph is helpful because it introduces customers to wonky, finds these carrots a home, and stops them being wasted."
