Nice tipple if you like peaty whiskey. Sweet & pleasant, particularly if you grew up drinking Teachers whiskey. Drink some of this before stepping up to a good bottle of Laphroaig, if you are brave enough. But... Probably not one for the whiskey snobs who can't accept that you can't enjoy a bottle of whiskey without paying through your nose for it lol.

    Vorwort:
    Hier wird freilich nicht wissenschaftlich rezensiert. Ich schreibe Ihnen einfach auf, wie ich persönlich diese Flaschen empfunden habe. Sie erhalten meine ganz persönlichen Geschmacksnotizen, die ich mir selbst zu jeder verkosteten Flasche gemacht habe. Ich besitze etwa 150 offene Flaschen und bin der Meinung, dass mich dies für eine laienhaften Rezension qualifiziert. Letztlich muss der Kauf individuell nach Geschmack und Preis erfolgen. Zum Thema Geschmack möchte hier einen persönlichen Beitrag leisten.

    Und nun lade ich Sie ein, mit mir gemeinsam drei Sorten des Ardmore zu verkosten.

    Allgemeine Informationen:
    Die Ardmore Destillerie liegt in den Schottischen Highlands, konkret in Kennethmont, Aberdeenshire. Sie wurde 1898 gegründet. Typisch für Highlands-Whiskys ist, dass hier eine breite Palette unterschiedlicher Whiskys hergestellt werden, von reichhaltigen bis floralen Aromen und Geschmäckern ist hier eine breite Auswahl vorzufinden. Eher selten findet man Whiskys die rauchige Komponenten vorweisen. Die Ardmore Brennerei ist einer der wenigen Vertreter dieser Ausnahmen.
    Die Standard Flaschen sind (Stand Anfang 2018): “Legacy”, “Tradition”, “Port Wood Finish” und “Triple Wood”. Die ersten drei Abfüllungen stelle ich nun näher vor:

    Die günstigste Flasche ist die mit der Bezeichnung “Legacy”. Sie hat 40% Volumenprozent. Ardmore beschreibt, dass dies eine Mischung aus rauchigem und nicht rauchigem Whisky der Brennerei darstellt. Das Ergebnis sei leicht und süss mit einzigartigen Torfrauch Anklängen.

    Die Ardmore “Tradition” - Sorte ist eine speziell für die Travel-Shops vorgesehene Abfüllung, ist aber mittlerweile auch über reguläre Shops wie hier bei Amazon erhältlich. In meiner Verkostung kommt eine Flasche zum Einsatz, die noch ein altes Design vorweist. Dieser Whisky reifte zunächst in normalen Eichenfässern und danach noch einmal in kleinen Quarter Casks. Diese kleineren Fässer bieten eine größere Oberfläche je Liter im Inneren des Fasses und geben somit mehr Aromen an den werdenden Whisky ab. Letztlich wurde er mit 46% abgefüllt. Auch dieser Whisky wurde leicht rauchig gestaltet.

    Der dritte im Bunde ist der Ardmore “Port Wood Finish”. Wie der Name bereits verrät, wurde dieser Whisky nach der Grundreifezeit in Eichenfässern (ehemalige Bourbon Fässer aus Amerika) noch einmal in Portwein-Fässer umgefüllt. Dadurch wird eine fruchtige Note prognostiziert, die ebenfalls - ardmoretypisch - mit rauchigen Noten gekreuzt werden. Es steht zwar nicht auf der Flasche, aber auf der Homepage wird angegeben, dass diese Sorte 12 Jahre insgesamt in den Fässern reifte. Die Flaschenabfüllung wurde mit 46% vorgenommen.

    VERKOSTUNG:
    Ich habe nun alle drei Sorten vor mir in identischen Gläsern und eines fällt bereits auf, dass der Farbton von “hell” (Legacy), zu “etwas dunkler” (Tradition) hin zu “noch etwas dunkler” (Port Wood) reicht. Da alle drei Sorten nicht künstlich gefärbt wurden, ist dies ein erster Hinweis auf die Intensität der Aromen und Geschmäcker.

    Legacy:
    In der Nase empfinde ich etwas Torf, dahinter eine gewisse Frische, die ich mit Banane und Zitrone verbinde. Der Geschmack erscheint zunächst etwas aschig und ich denke als ehemaliger Raucher irgendwie an Nikotin. Dies ist aber eher unterschwellig, wenn man den zweiten Schluck nimmt. Dann kommt etwas Schokolade und leichte Vanille zum Vorschein. Der Torf ist klar da, dennoch übertönt er nicht voll den eigentlichen Geschmack. Der Abgang ist relativ lang, es dominiert der Rauch. Urteil: Interessant!

    Tradition:
    Das Aroma (Nase) ist im Vergleich zum Legacy anders, aber dennoch verwandt. Es ist leicht, malzig und zitrusartig. Vielleicht etwas Heu. Das Raucharoma ist auch vorhanden, in meiner Empfindung aber etwas geringer ausgeprägt. Im Geschmack kommt er süß und vanillig rüber. Darüber hinaus schmecke ich Krokant auf einer Creme Brulee, der etwas zu sehr verbrannt wurde. Das liegt sicher daran, dass die Rauchkomponente vorhanden ist, wenn auch nur leicht. Der Abgang ist ebenfalls relativ lang, rauchig und leicht vanillig.

    Port Wood:
    Der Port Wood kommt in der Nase erst einmal etwas zarter und weicher rüber. Der Rauchanteil im Geruch ist hier nach meinem Empfinden am geringsten ausgeprägt, aber vorhanden. Während Heu-artige Aromen mehr in den Hintergrund treten, kommen tatsächlich fruchtige Aromen nach vorn. Mich erinnert der Geruch an reife Kirschen. Geschmacklich fällt sofort auf, dass diese Sorte am intensivsten daher kommt. Als habe er einen Geschmacksturbo erhalten. Ein zweiter größerer Schluck offenbart eine Milde, mit fruchtigen Anklängen. Der im ersten Moment sofort identifizierte Rauch klingt deutlich ab. Hervor kommt ein karamelliger und süss/fruchtiger Geschmack. Den Abgang empfinde ich hier am längsten.

    FAZIT:
    Hier liegen drei hervorragende und auch relativ preisgünstige Whiskys vor, denen ich allen 5 Sterne verleihe. Ich bin grundsätzlich ein Fan von Whiskys mit einem Hauch von Rauch und ein Fan von Whiskys mit einem Weinfass Finish. Somit gehört die Ardmore-Reihe grundsätzlich zu meinen Favoriten. Ja, es gibt deutlich rauchigere Whiskys und auch eine Vielzahl von Whiskys deren Weinfass Einfluss deutlicher wirkte, als bei der hier vorkommenden Port Wood Flasche (Beispiel: Laphroaig PX Cask, siehe meine Rezension dort). Dennoch ist das alles relativ und in Wahrheit eher wenig vergleichbar. Mein Gewinner unter diesen drei Flaschen ist logischerweise die Port Wood Sorte. Wer auf nicht ganz so viel Rauch (aber immer noch deutlich vorhandenen) Rauch steht, der dazu noch durch ein Weinfass fruchtig beeinflusst wurde, ist mit dieser Abfüllung sicher höchst zufrieden.

Ich besitze etwa 150 offene Flaschen und bin der Meinung, dass mich dies für eine laienhaften Rezension qualifiziert. Letztlich muss der Kauf individuell nach Geschmack und Preis erfolgen. Zum Thema Geschmack möchte hier einen persönlichen Beitrag leisten.

    Und nun lade ich Sie ein, mit mir gemeinsam drei Sorten des Ardmore zu verkosten.

    Allgemeine Informationen:
    Die Ardmore Destillerie liegt in den Schottischen Highlands, konkret in Kennethmont, Aberdeenshire. Sie wurde 1898 gegründet. Typisch für Highlands-Whiskys ist, dass hier eine breite Palette unterschiedlicher Whiskys hergestellt werden, von reichhaltigen bis floralen Aromen und Geschmäckern ist hier eine breite Auswahl vorzufinden. Eher selten findet man Whiskys die rauchige Komponenten vorweisen. Die Ardmore Brennerei ist einer der wenigen Vertreter dieser Ausnahmen.
    Die Standard Flaschen sind (Stand Anfang 2018): “Legacy”, “Tradition”, “Port Wood Finish” und “Triple Wood”. Die ersten drei Abfüllungen stelle ich nun näher vor:

    Die günstigste Flasche ist die mit der Bezeichnung “Legacy”. Sie hat 40% Volumenprozent. Ardmore beschreibt, dass dies eine Mischung aus rauchigem und nicht rauchigem Whisky der Brennerei darstellt. Das Ergebnis sei leicht und süss mit einzigartigen Torfrauch Anklängen.

    Die Ardmore “Tradition” - Sorte ist eine speziell für die Travel-Shops vorgesehene Abfüllung, ist aber mittlerweile auch über reguläre Shops wie hier bei Amazon erhältlich. In meiner Verkostung kommt eine Flasche zum Einsatz, die noch ein altes Design vorweist. Dieser Whisky reifte zunächst in normalen Eichenfässern und danach noch einmal in kleinen Quarter Casks. Diese kleineren Fässer bieten eine größere Oberfläche je Liter im Inneren des Fasses und geben somit mehr Aromen an den werdenden Whisky ab. Letztlich wurde er mit 46% abgefüllt. Auch dieser Whisky wurde leicht rauchig gestaltet.

    Der dritte im Bunde ist der Ardmore “Port Wood Finish”. Wie der Name bereits verrät, wurde dieser Whisky nach der Grundreifezeit in Eichenfässern (ehemalige Bourbon Fässer aus Amerika) noch einmal in Portwein-Fässer umgefüllt. Dadurch wird eine fruchtige Note prognostiziert, die ebenfalls - ardmoretypisch - mit rauchigen Noten gekreuzt werden. Es steht zwar nicht auf der Flasche, aber auf der Homepage wird angegeben, dass diese Sorte 12 Jahre insgesamt in den Fässern reifte. Die Flaschenabfüllung wurde mit 46% vorgenommen.

    VERKOSTUNG:
    Ich habe nun alle drei Sorten vor mir in identischen Gläsern und eines fällt bereits auf, dass der Farbton von “hell” (Legacy), zu “etwas dunkler” (Tradition) hin zu “noch etwas dunkler” (Port Wood) reicht. Da alle drei Sorten nicht künstlich gefärbt wurden, ist dies ein erster Hinweis auf die Intensität der Aromen und Geschmäcker.

    Legacy:
    In der Nase empfinde ich etwas Torf, dahinter eine gewisse Frische, die ich mit Banane und Zitrone verbinde. Der Geschmack erscheint zunächst etwas aschig und ich denke als ehemaliger Raucher irgendwie an Nikotin. Dies ist aber eher unterschwellig, wenn man den zweiten Schluck nimmt. Dann kommt etwas Schokolade und leichte Vanille zum Vorschein. Der Torf ist klar da, dennoch übertönt er nicht voll den eigentlichen Geschmack. Der Abgang ist relativ lang, es dominiert der Rauch. Urteil: Interessant!

    Tradition:
    Das Aroma (Nase) ist im Vergleich zum Legacy anders, aber dennoch verwandt. Es ist leicht, malzig und zitrusartig. Vielleicht etwas Heu. Das Raucharoma ist auch vorhanden, in meiner Empfindung aber etwas geringer ausgeprägt. Im Geschmack kommt er süß und vanillig rüber. Darüber hinaus schmecke ich Krokant auf einer Creme Brulee, der etwas zu sehr verbrannt wurde. Das liegt sicher daran, dass die Rauchkomponente vorhanden ist, wenn auch nur leicht. Der Abgang ist ebenfalls relativ lang, rauchig und leicht vanillig.

    Port Wood:
    Der Port Wood kommt in der Nase erst einmal etwas zarter und weicher rüber. Der Rauchanteil im Geruch ist hier nach meinem Empfinden am geringsten ausgeprägt, aber vorhanden. Während Heu-artige Aromen mehr in den Hintergrund treten, kommen tatsächlich fruchtige Aromen nach vorn. Mich erinnert der Geruch an reife Kirschen. Geschmacklich fällt sofort auf, dass diese Sorte am intensivsten daher kommt. Als habe er einen Geschmacksturbo erhalten. Ein zweiter größerer Schluck offenbart eine Milde, mit fruchtigen Anklängen. Der im ersten Moment sofort identifizierte Rauch klingt deutlich ab. Hervor kommt ein karamelliger und süss/fruchtiger Geschmack. Den Abgang empfinde ich hier am längsten.

    FAZIT:
    Hier liegen drei hervorragende und auch relativ preisgünstige Whiskys vor, denen ich allen 5 Sterne verleihe. Ich bin grundsätzlich ein Fan von Whiskys mit einem Hauch von Rauch und ein Fan von Whiskys mit einem Weinfass Finish. Somit gehört die Ardmore-Reihe grundsätzlich zu meinen Favoriten. Ja, es gibt deutlich rauchigere Whiskys und auch eine Vielzahl von Whiskys deren Weinfass Einfluss deutlicher wirkte, als bei der hier vorkommenden Port Wood Flasche (Beispiel: Laphroaig PX Cask, siehe meine Rezension dort). Dennoch ist das alles relativ und in Wahrheit eher wenig vergleichbar. Mein Gewinner unter diesen drei Flaschen ist logischerweise die Port Wood Sorte. Wer auf nicht ganz so viel Rauch (aber immer noch deutlich vorhandenen) Rauch steht, der dazu noch durch ein Weinfass fruchtig beeinflusst wurde, ist mit dieser Abfüllung sicher höchst zufrieden.
